The Blues were up against it as their main rival Leicester City had build a 2-0 advantage early on in the other game, which meant the Toffees were temporary in the drop zone.
A decisive hit from Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 57th minute saw them emerge ahead and cling on to that precious lead until the last whistle.
The jubilation among the Everton supporters was sky-high as this was one of the few occasions this season they could afford joy as it has been a torrid campaign with the team punching well below its expected standards.
This means Leicester City, despite their 2-1 win over West Ham are going down after being serious Champions League contenders up until 2021. In 2015-16 their miraculously lifted the title despite all the odds, but now they say farewell to the Premier League after 9 years in the English top-flight.
