Both teams have been referred to an independent commission for alleged breaches of profit and other financial rules breakings for the past season.
Under the league’s regulations, sides can have a negative balance of a maximum of 120 million dollars over 3 years, or 40 million dollars per season, before breaking the rules.
The sanctions that the Premier League can impose are fines or even point deductions.
The Toffees have already faced such sanctions as 10 points are deducted from Everton from a previous charge, as the team is currently appealing.
The EPL shared in a statement that both teams “have each confirmed that they are in breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.”
Everton and Nottingham Forest have 2 weeks to submit their formal responses to the charges.
