2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button has joined the experts who believe that modern cars in the world championship are too heavy.
“Now Formula 1 is in excellent shape. Racing is fun for the fans, but I dream of the moment when the cars become lighter. Drivers have always preferred lighter cars. Everything else in Formula 1 is as it should be. As long as the drivers have the opportunity to attack, take risks and enjoy the battle on the track, everything in Formula 1 will be fine”, explained the Brit.
An example of how much heavier the cars have become is that in Fernando Alonso‘s first season in Formula 1 in 2001 the Minardi car had a minimum weight of 600 kg. For this season, the minimum weight of cars in Formula 1 is almost 800 kilograms.
