Extraordinary scenes during the 4th round match as the fan was initially dismissed

A fan got ejected from the stands during the 4th round match between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev after the German accused him of using language from the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler.

Zverev was serving in the 4th set at 2-2, when he went to the umpire to complain that one person behind him was distracting him with inappropriate language.

“He just said the most famous Hitler phrase there is in this world,” Zverev told the umpire. “It’s not acceptable.”

James Keothovong, the umpire, asked the fan to identify himself and then said to all the fans in the grandstands that they should be respectful towards the players.

Initially the spectators managed to pinpoint the fan in the changeover and he was shortly afterwards removed from the stands.

“A disparaging remark was directed toward Alexander Zverev,” U.S. Tennis Association spokesman Chris Widmaier said, “The fan was identified and escorted from the stadium.”

Zverev went on to win a breathtaking game in 5 sets that lasted almost 5 hours and will face world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the next round.
