Ferrari are on the verge of offering Lewis Hamilton a ground-breaking £40m bid to lure him away from Mercedes, according to reports.
The deal, if it were to happen, will eclipse the earnings of Ferrari’s greatest ever and most successful driver Michael Schumacher.
Reports say that the talks between the two sides have reached advanced point as company director John Elkann is currently in close contact with Hamilton.
The 38-year-old is desperately searching for his 8th World title, which would officially make him the most successful driver in history. However, the Mercedes in recent seasons has not been a reliable tool, having been blown away from competitors Red Bull and even Ferrari pace wise.
Therefore, it is no surprise that a switch may be on the Briton’s mind as he aims to challenge current champion Max Verstappen for the title.
Ferrari are preparing two scenarios if Hamilton were to join them:
1) to swap their current No.1 driver Charles Leclerc, who will join Mercedes
2) or to ditch Carlos Sainz and partner Hamilton with Leclerc.
