French authorities claimed that what happened around the Marseille stadium as “disgusting”. They added that 9 people had been put into custody after Lyon’s bus was attacked and their head coach Fabio Grosso injured.
Yesterday’s Ligue 1 game between the 2 rival clubs, with a history of supporter violence, was canceled.
Lyon’s manager was left bloodied and dazed after being struck in the face as stones were thrown at the bus.
“We have witnessed everything that we never wanted to see ever again,” Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera shared with media today, adding that supporters had also allegedly been chanting anti-gay and racist slurs inside Marseille’s stadium.
“It was something that should never happen in a civilized country and society.”
“My hope is that the highest possible prison sentences will be handed to those people that ruined the match for everybody,” Interior Minister Darmanin said of the accident.
