The illustrious manager hasn't been able to lift the big trophy with City

Pep Guardiola has defended his inability to win the Champions League with Manchester City, despite being for over six years at the wheel of the club and spending over $2 billion over that period.

Guardiola has often been criticized for his failure to transcend the domestic success he has achieved with Manchester City into the European stage.

And ahead of crunch 1/4 final tie with Bayern Munich the picture was no different as reporters swarmed the Spanish coach with questions concerning this worrying statistic.

Guardiola, however, was having none of that as he replied rather irritated that many great names in the sport have endured more failure than success.

“How many Masters has Jack Nicklaus played or majors has he played in his career, in 30-40 years as a golfer? … Eighteen (major) wins. Wow. He loses more than he wins. That is sport. In football, in golf, in basketball.” he said

Michael Jordan, the best athlete for me in basketball, won 6 NBA titles (in 15 seasons) … He loses more than he wins.”

Guardiola’s last success in the Champions League came in 2011 with star-studded Barcelona team that is considered by many as the greatest football side ever. Many have argued that the Spaniard triumph was all due to the unreal football displayed by Lionel Messi, who was at the peak of his powers.

Since then, Guardiola has managed to reach only one final in 2021, losing to Chelsea 1-0, despite being the favorite.
