After securing Manchester City’s fourth consecutive Premier League title, manager Pep Guardiola hinted at the possibility of his tenure at the Etihad nearing its end.
“The competition with Arsenal pushed us to another level – previously it was Liverpool, and in the last two seasons, it’s been Arsenal. This is incredible for us. We understand the message, we know they will be there for many years. Arsenal has a young manager with great talent. They sent us a message that we need to be careful with them for the next few years.”
Guardiola expressed amazement at the success achieved during his tenure, winning six titles in seven seasons, something he initially deemed unimaginable. “When I moved here, if someone had told me I would win six titles in seven seasons, I would have called them crazy. Now, it’s our period.”
Guardiola also discussed the challenges faced this season, such as the absence of star striker Erling Haaland for several months. He praised the performances of Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden, who stepped up in critical moments. “We were without Haaland for many months. Then Julian Alvarez did an incredible job. Phil Foden has great talent. On the big stage, in the big moment, he delivered. Incredible players, but with Phil, we have something extra in our squad.”

Looking ahead, Guardiola candidly admitted that he feels closer to the end of his journey with Manchester City than staying long-term. “The reality is that I am closer to leaving Manchester City than staying at the Etihad. We talked with the club – my feeling is that I want to stay for now. I will stay next season and during the season, we will talk. But eight or nine years – we will see.”
