All-Star closer Josh Hader gave a green light for a 5-year, 95 million dollar deal with the Houston Astros today, significantly improving a franchise that has made 7 straight appearances in the American League Championship Series.
The contract doesn’t feature any deferrals, making it the largest ever for a relief pitcher. Edwin Diaz inked a 5-year, 102 million dollar contract with the NY Mets in the past offseason. Still, almost 27 million dollars of it was deferred, giving it a present-day value in the neighborhood of 93 million dollars.
Houston’s contract with Josh comes on the heels of news that Kendall Graveman, 1 of the organization’s principal high-leverage relievers, would be sidelined for the upcoming campaign after a shoulder procedure. However, with Hader, the Astros are definitely among the favorites for the World Series, as they were 1 victory away from clinching the trophy a few months ago.
Josh Hader has reportedly agreed to spend the next five years in Houston.
