Lewis Hamilton expressed his optimism concerning the new path of upgrades the W14 has taken in order to take the challenge to Red Bull.
Team Principal Toto Wolff earlier confirmed that Mercedes will be taking upgrades in the upcoming weeks, as the calendar is clustered with races after a long, 4-week break.
However, Hamilton emphasized the upgrades are no magic wand as they alone cannot reduce the gap to leaders Red Bull. The seven-time world champion had one of his better races last time around in Australia as he finished second behind race winner Max Verstappen.
“I think it will be an upgrade, naturally, but I think it will be kind of the start of a new path for us,” Hamilton said. “It will be at the core still the same car, but part of the path of getting where we want to be.
“We’re not going to hit the ground and be where we wanted to be at the start of the season, we’re not making up that crazy ground that there is – but I think it’s really positive, that so much great work has been done back in the factory to make time to progress in the right direction.”
