Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, has issued a stern ultimatum to the team regarding the success of the planned upgrades for their RB20 car, set to debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix. This demand follows Red Bull’s recent struggles, which have seen their once-dominant advantage diminish.
“Everything must align perfectly for us to win; we cannot afford the slightest mistake,” stated Marko. He pointed out that at Silverstone, the team struggled with pace on medium tires, highlighting the need for improvements. “Thankfully, we have upgrades coming in Budapest that we hope will move us forward.”

Marko said that these upgrades are essential as Red Bull is currently trailing McLaren in terms of pure pace and was also behind Mercedes at Silverstone. He mentioned the critical role of temperature in the car’s performance and dismissed the notion that a car fast in Barcelona would be fast everywhere.
“One thing is certain: the update must work, because we are currently behind McLaren in the base – and if you look at the England race, also behind Mercedes.
The fact that the temperatures play a major role or that a car that is good in Barcelona can also cope well on all other circuits is no longer something I fully believe in. All of this is called into question by the tyre situation.
It’s obviously crucial to get into the right temperature window, but the Red Bull is still not the fastest car at the moment and we have to correct that with the update.”
