Henrik Lundqvist is expected to be inducted into the Hockey’s Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, a list that is to be announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Lundqvist has had an elusive career, winning the Olympic gold medal with Sweden in 2006. He also was the star of New York Rangers recent success, ensuring them place in the playoffs in 11 out of the last 12 years, including Stanley Cup final in 2014 and two Eastern Conference final appearances.
The goaltender put an end to his career in 2020 due to heart issues, after being selected as a seventh-round pick in the draft. He ranks fifth in the NHL career victory list with 459 and, in addition, has another 61 in the playoffs.
The official ceremony is scheduled for November 13 in Toronto.
