Christian Horner has addressed the rumours concerning chief car designer Adrien Newey’s future at Red Bull, insisting the British engineer long-term prospects lie at the Milton Keynes team.
Newey joined Red Bull back in 2006 and played an instrumental part in transforming the team from midfield runner to title contenders as soon as 2009, when they finished runner-ups before clinching 4 consecutive Drivers and Constructors championship in the period 2010-2013.
In recent years Red Bull have returned to the top with Verstappen clinching both titles in 2021 and 2022 and Red Bull grabbing the Constructors in 2022. They look to set for another brace in 2023 after a dominant start in first three starts.
Meanwhile, there have been speculations about Newey’s commitment after the 64-year old has been enmeshed in other projects.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Horner dismissed all of the rumours.
“His heart is still very much in Formula 1 and his commitment to the team is… It’s not something… We don’t talk about contracts or longevity of contracts, but he’ll be here for many years to come.”
“He’s such an important part of our team and popular part of our team. It’s great to have him with us for the long-term, but also to be involved in projects like some of the things that we’re now getting involved in.”
