The Premier League made a huge step towards clarifying refereeing decision by introducing live communication between match officials during the game.
The match in question was Sunday’s game between Brentford and Southamptom, which saw the Saints get relegated.
Match official initially awarded the Bees with a penalty, which later got overturned after a VAR review. More interesting is the conversation between the head official and those behind the video cameras, which was broadcast live.
The aim of this invention is to give transparency into match officiating.
‘Going forward, we are looking to do more of the same,’ Howard Webb said.
He also stated that even if some decisions remain debatable, live broadcasting helps dent any claims about referees favoritism.
