Hunter Greene has reached a long-term deal with his new team Cincinnati Reds, almost a year after his impressive debut with them as he was able to establish himself as a key figure.
The new contract will be worth $53 million for a 6-year period.
“I’m fired up,” responded the pitcher on Wednesday, a day after the team announced the news.
“I want to be in the forefront to returning to winning in Cincinnati. We have a lot of great players here and coming through the system.”
Last month Greene agreed to a one year contract, worth $730,000 while in the major leagues and $350,000 in the minors. The new deal includes payments increasing each year – $1 million this year, $3 million in 2024, $6 million in 2025, $8 million in 2026, $15 million in 2027 and $16 million in 2028.
“He’s a talented player, but he’s just as great off the field as well,” commented general manager Nick Krall, “We want players who make commitments off the field.”
