Inter Miami has changed its plans and will not stay at a Santa Monica hotel where employees are on strike, the workers’ union told Reuters.
Lionel Messi and his teammates were due to check into the Fairmont Miramar on Friday for their upcoming MLS match against Los Angeles FC on Sunday.
The staff, who are among thousands of hotel workers across the region who went on strike over the summer to demand better pay amid rising housing costs, have called for that not to happen.
Inter Miami were scheduled to stay at a hotel in Santa Monica this weekend for their match against LAFC. The team have since cancelled their reservation out of respect for the workers who are on strike fighting for higher pay.

“Thank you to the great Lionel Messi and his teammates for agreeing to move and show solidarity with the striking workers,” the union said.
A spokesman for the Fairmont Miramar hotel declined to comment, and Major League Soccer said the league does not track which hotels teams use during their trips.
