5 sports – though not tennis, swimming, or judo — were assessed by the committee to see if the athletes had talked about the war between Russia and Ukraine or had ties to the war.
Cycling, gymnastics, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling were cleared 1st as the other sports will be followed in the next several days.
The most famous athletes cleared to compete as neutrals today are the defending Olympic champion in men’s trampoline – the Belarussian Ivan Litvinovich and the Russian cyclist Aleksandr Vlasov, who has 3 career top-10 finishes in Grand Tours.
It is yet to be known how many Russian athletes will receive neutral status and will be able to compete in Paris from July 26th to August 11th. The neutral athletes will not be part of the opening ceremony parade.
