One of Juventus’ young talents Niccolo Fagioli is being investigated for betting on illegal online platforms, the Italian media have reported this morning. The 22-year-old midfielder placed the bets through several different accounts. If proven, he faces a sentence of three years or more and a fine starting at a minimum of €25,000.
Fagioli is effectively breaking the law twice, because firstly, he is not allowed to bet on events of the same professional field in which he works, and secondly, it is a crime to do so on illegal platforms. It is precisely because of this that the prosecutor’s office in Naples got involved and started an investigation a few months ago. The player’s lawyers were notified on August 30.

If he is proven guilty, Juventus could very soon find themselves with two key players who will be suspended for a long period. Paul Pogba has already been caught with doping, and a few days ago his “B” test for testosterone turned out to be positive as well, which means he will be banned from football for about four years.
