British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe said he does not want to pay a “stupid price” for Manchester United, a day before the deadline for second bids to buy the Premier League club.
Ratcliffe has never hidden that he has been a supporter of the Red Devils all his life. And in its role as the owner of the chemical products company INEOS submitted its offer to buy the club in February.
The current owners of the club – the American family Glazer, began to look for options for the 20-time champions as they launched the procedure for sell in November, 17 years after they acquired the team for £790m as part of a high loan deal.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ratcliffe described the club as a “community asset” rather than a financial one, without diminishing its value.
“How do you price a painting? How do you price a house? It’s not about how much it costs to build or how much it costs to paint,” Ratcliffe said. “What I don’t want to do is pay unreasonable, stupid prices that I later regret. I know what United is, so my offer is relevant to that,” adds the businessman.
