Juventus’ lawyers attended court on Monday to face the first in a series of court dates following accusations of false accounting by the 36-time Italian champions. However, the procedure was postponed for May 10 for administrative reasons.
“It’s completely normal in terms of procedure,” Juventus lawyer Maurizio Bellacosa said following the postponement, underlining that the club will request that the trial be moved to Milan or Rome before the scheduled date.
Andrea Agnelli, former club president, along with 11 others face charges of false communications with a company listed publicly on the Milan stock exchange, obstructing watchdog agencies and market manipulation.
The whole Juventus board resigned after news broke out that the club is a target to multiple investigation by prosecutors in Turin. The Old Lady was further hit with a 15-points deduction in the Serie A in January.
Juventus denies any wrongdoings and the club has appealed the 15-point penalty to Italy’s highest sports court, known as CONI. A hearing is scheduled for April 19.
If the Italian team manages to overturn the decision that would mean a huge leap in the Serie A standings. Juventus currently sit 7th, but with a potential 15 points being added back, the 36-time Italian champions will find themselves 2nd, which would secure them Champions League football next season.
