A championship ring from the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2000 NBA title – gifted by Kobe Bryant to his father, Joe Bryant – was sold for $927,000 at the Goldin collectibles market over the weekend.
In a highly contested auction with 43 bids, the highest amount ever paid for an NBA championship ring was secured. The title from the 1999-2000 season, the first of Kobe Bryant’s five, is the only instance where he gifted a ring to his father.
Goldin noted that the ring is an identical copy to the one gifted by Kobe: Bryant’s name is engraved on one side, it has the same size (11½), weight (59.6 grams), and engravings.

Initially sent to Goldin in 2013 by Pam and Joe Bryant, the ring was sold for $173,000. For this weekend’s sale, the buyer from 2013 sent the ring back, accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Bryant family.
However, this is not the highest amount ever paid for a championship ring. That record still belongs to Charlie Sheen, who paid $2.09 million for Babe Ruth’s World Series ring from 1927.
