The release saves the franchise more than 19 million dollars in salary cap space under the new front office of GM Tom Telesco and manager Antonio Pierce.
Jimmy inked a 3-year, almost 73 million dollar deal with almost 34 million dollars guaranteed with the Raiders in the past offseason when Josh McDaniels was the boss and Dave Ziegler was general manager. While the quarterback was due over 11 million dollars on roster bonus at the end of the weekend, his 11 million dollar base salary guarantee for the upcoming campaign can now also be voided due to a 2-match ban handed down by the National Football League in February for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.
While Garoppolo is now free to ink with any franchise, he is not appealing the ban and will miss the 1st 2 matches for his new organization.
