Manchester City is set to face the Premier League in a legal battle over the organization’s commercial rules next week. BBC Sport reports that an arbitration hearing on the legality of the league’s associated party transaction (APT) rules, which evaluate whether sponsorship deals are financially fair, is scheduled for June 10-21.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Premier League was facing potential legal action over changes to its rules. It has now been disclosed to the remaining Premier League clubs that Manchester City is the club challenging these rules. The league has offered the other 19 clubs the opportunity to submit witness statements for the case.
“The Champions of the Premier League are basically suing the Premier League.”

Both the Premier League and Manchester City have not commented on the case. However, The Times reports that it has seen a 165-page legal document in which City claims they are victims of “discrimination.” City argues that the amended rules were approved by rival clubs to “stifle” their on-field success, describing the situation as “a tyranny of the majority.”
