OCT clinched both of their home games as the series go to Minneapolis

Just one day after being named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a performance worthy of the honor. The Oklahoma City Thunder star scored 38 points to lead his team to a 118-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night, giving Oklahoma City a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals.

Gilgeous-Alexander was efficient and aggressive throughout the night, connecting on 12 of 21 field goal attempts and sinking 13 of 15 free throws. Before tip-off, he received his MVP trophy from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in front of a roaring Thunder crowd.

Jalen Williams added a strong all-around game with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Chet Holmgren contributed 22 points to the Thunder’s winning effort.

Earlier in the day, Lu Dort was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team and Williams to the Second Team. That defensive prowess showed as the Thunder held Minnesota to just 41.4% shooting from the field.

Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 32 points, but needed 26 shots to reach that total. Jaden McDaniels added 22 points, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 17, but Minnesota couldn’t match Oklahoma City’s energy or efficiency.

The series now shifts to Minneapolis for Game 3 on Saturday, where the Timberwolves will try to claw their way back against a red-hot Thunder squad.
