Paul, who made his name as the Saints’ head of recruitment before joining Spurs in 2014, worked for the last time in Monaco, and he left the French team in October 2023.
Mitchell replaces Dan, who had been on gardening leave for 4 months after expressing his desire to leave and join Manchester United.
Ashworth’s leave was due to run until next year, but at the beginning of the week, the Magpies and the Red Devils had agreed on a compensation package to allow him to join the team from Old Trafford.
Mitchell shared about his appointment with Newcastle: “I watched closely the recent growth and ambition of the team. This, plus the phenomenal supporters, made the decision to work here easy one.”
He added that he can’t wait to start and to help Newcastle grow in all areas of elite football performance.
