The National Football League is modifying its wagering policies that will punish footballers more harshly for placing bets on their own franchises while also amending rules that will allow some already punished, like Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams, to return to the game sooner.
Under the new rules, a player who wagers on a match involving his own organization will be banned for at least 2 seasons. Wagers placed by players on any NFL match will result in at least a 1 campaign ban.

Wagering on other sports while at the franchise facility or on organization-related travel will now result in a 2-match ban for a 1st violation, 6 matches for a 2nd violation, and at least 1 season for a 3rd.
This will help Williams and Tennessee Titans OT Nick Petit-Frere to be able to play in the NFL from Monday. Both were banned 6 matches but will end up serving 4.
