Nico Rosberg announced his retirement from Formula 1 just 3 days after winning the 2016 world title.
It came as a shock to everyone in the sport, led by its Mercedes bosses Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda. In a recent interview Niko reveals that this decision was a real shock for him as well.
“At that moment I literally gave up on my previous life – admitted the son of the 1982 world champion Keke Rosberg. – Until then, everything was subordinated to the competitions. All I thought about was the fight. It was a shock to me, it was like I was restarting. Until then, I had never thought about anything else but the next race.”
“In addition, I had to accept the fact that even though I had become the champion, in 2017 I had to start from scratch again. I’ve done a lot of work, invested a lot of time and effort into getting to know myself. And my main problem was to find the meaning of life.”, he adds in an article for Men’s Health magazine.
