Helmut Marko gave his honest opinion about the ongoing driver situation at Red Bull by stating that there is no one, who could match Max Verstappen’s pace.
The comments come after speculation whether Sergio Pere is good enough to drive the Milton Keynes’ car.
Marko replied that there are only 2 other drivers on the grid that could come nearer to Verstappen, but no one could match him.
“Being second behind Max is like a win,” he said. “There won’t be any other driver who could stay with him on one level. Maybe [Fernando] Alonso and [Lewis] Hamilton would be nearer, but nobody could beat him at the moment.”
“I know how good Max is [and] that has to be considered. He’s nursing the tires and he’s still going fast. He can read the race and he’s so far ahead [with] what he’s doing he’s already past. It’s unbelievable capacity in his head.”
Verstappen is currently on course for 3rd consecutive drivers championship, leading the standings with a mammoth-like 125 point in front of second-placed Perez.
