Lando’s quickest lap of 1:11.383 beat the leader in the standings, Max, by just 0.020s.
“Let’s f—— go, baby,” McLaren’s pilot screamed over the radio after securing the pole.
His team’s day started with a fire at the hospitality unit, but everyone was evacuated, and the final practice sessions went ahead without a delay.
Norris claimed afterward: “Without a doubt, it was close to a perfect lap, you know when you’re on a good lap when you’re satisfied, the whole thing went perfectly in the end but close still.”
Lando added that he is very happy with the pole position and that since the race in Miami, the team has been performing very strongly.
Hamilton will start from the 3rd position at the Spanish Grand Prix tomorrow.
