“The manager is eventually responsible for the culture of his football program,” university president Michael Schill shared with the people. “The hazing we probed was widespread and clearly not a secret within the team, allowing Coach Fitzgerald to learn what was happening. Either way, while respectable in some ways, the culture in Northwestern Football was corrupted in others.”
Defensive coordinator David Braun will most likely become the program’s new manager.
The dismissal of the manager comes after the school shared Friday that they will suspend Fitzgerald without salary for 14 days after they concluded their investigation into an allegation made by an ex-Wildcats football player.
The next day, more details were published on The Daily Northwestern about hazing and sexual abuse within the program, and the school decided to fire the head coach.
