Toronto Maple Leafs player William Nylander passes on joining Sweden at the 2023 IIHF World Championship.
Regarding William Nylander’s decision not to join Sweden at the IIHF World Hockey Championship: I’m told he was reticent about arriving late and taking someone’s spot in the lineup, especially since it may have belonged to his brother Alex.

Swedish media wrote that the Maple Leafs forward would join the national team in Finland and Latvia, but William decided not to do it.
Nylander was expected to be included in the Swedish squad for the playoffs at the World Championship. Therefore, he had a chance to take the place of his brother on the roster.
The Swedish winger finished his 8th year in the NHL as he notched career-high 40 goals and earned 87 points in 82 matches with Toronto. He scored 4 goals and had 10 points in 11 postseason matches before the Florida Panthers eliminated his franchise in 5 clashes in the 2nd round.
