The Edmonton Oilers appointed Stan Bowman as GM and executive vice president of hockey operations today, making him the 1st ex-Chicago Blackhawks executive rehired by a National Hockey League franchise since the organization’s sexual assault case came to light in the past years.
The NHL reinstated Stan, manager Joel Quenneville and fellow executive Al MacIsaac at the beginning of July. Bowman resigned as Blackhawks’ general manager 3 years ago after an independent probe found the franchise mishandled the allegations made in 2010 by player Kyle Beach that he was sexually assaulted by video coach Brad Aldridge.
Stan led Chicago when they triumphed with the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015.
He became the 11th GM in Edmonton history and succeeded Hall of Fame executive Ken Holland, whose deal was not renewed after the Oilers’ run to the Stanley Cup finals, where the Canadian team was defeated in 7 matches by the Florida Panthers.
"I believe his vast experience & proven success in this role, together with the important work he has done in his time away from the game, fits our goal of being best in class when it comes to all facets of our organization." – #Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson on Stan Bowman
