Former AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has revealed that he wanted to bring Lionel Messi to the Rossoneri team, beating the competition of city-rivals Inter.
The legendary defender was fired by Milan’s owner Gerry Cardinale at the beginning of June, after holding the director’s post for 5 years.

“I was sad when I read that he (Messi) could go to Inter. For 10 days I tried to arrange his transfer to Milan, but then we realized that it was simply impossible,” MilanReports quoted Maldini. Back in 2021 Messi was considered by Inter, but his high financial requirements blocked the potential deal.
In 2021, the Argentine left Barcelona and joined PSG, where he spent two season before joining Inter Miami.
