Payton to earn about $18 million a year as Broncos Coach

The new Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton’s contract is for five years and “in the neighborhood of” $18 million a year, the NBC Sports reported.

That number would make the former New Orleans Saints coach Payton the second-highest-paid coach in not just the NFL, but in all of American sports.

Only Bill Belichick reportedly makes more, as the New England Patriots coach earns $20 million a year, according to Forbes.

The 59-year-old Payton, who accepted the Broncos job last week, coached the Saints in the last eight years.

Combine the salary with the team sending the Saints multiple high picks and Denver is paying a hefty price just to hire its new head coach.
