World champion Max Verstappen beat Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez by more than 22 seconds in yesterday’s Belgian Grand Prix, despite the Mexican starting from the front row and Verstappen starting sixth.
Verstappen caught up with leader Perez on the 17th of 44 laps and passed him without any problems before tearing away to claim his 8th win in a row and 10th overall since the start of the season. Perez explained that the main reasons for the big difference in the final, apart from Verstappen’s great pace, should also be sought in himself. Perez recorded one spin off the track at Turn 11 which further widened the gap and he also confirmed that his car was set up too “aggressively” and should have been careful until the finish.
“After the pit stops, Max pulled away, had a good gap, then I went off the track at turn 11 and the gap got bigger,” Perez explained to Sky Sports. – From then on, my task was to bring the car to the finish, we started with very aggressive settings and because of that I had to be careful.”
