VAR offside error was why Liverpool’s forward goal was disallowed.

PGMOL announced that Luis Díaz had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside in the Reds’ 2-1 loss to Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur today.

The forward thought he had scored for his team in the 34th minute after receiving a pass from Mo Salah and netted, only for his goal to be ruled offside by the referee on the touchline.

The VAR referee, Darren England, checked if his fellow judges on the pitch were right and confirmed their decision. However, we didn’t see offside lines during the broadcast, which usually happens.

“PGMOL acknowledges a significant human error occurred during the 1st half of Tottenham against Liverpool.

“The goal by Luiz Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of referees. This was a clear factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded after the VAR review. However, the VAR failed to fix things. PGMOL will investigate the circumstances which led to that mistake.”
