Dustin Poirier still believes that he is better than Justin Gaethje, even after his loss.
The two fighters fought for the ‘BMF’ championship in the main event of UFC 291 in the USA, with Justin knocking Dustin out in the 2nd round with a head kick. It’s the Poirier’s 1st knockout defeat since Michael Johson 7 years ago, and Dustin still can’t get over it.
“I’m just heartbroken,” “The Diamond” claimed in a podcast.
“It’s tough. I did my best during the training camp, was in incredible form, and I got defeated. But that’s the sport. I shared that in the post-fight. It isn’t very good, man. It f****** sucks. Especially because — not taking anything away from Gaethje, he’s a phenomenal fighter, having to sit on a loss for 5 years.
I had to do it with McGregor. I sat on a defeat for 7 or 8 years until I finally got it back. So, he sat on that defeat for 5 years, and boy, he got it back. But even after that, In my mind, I’m still better than Gaethje.“
