Nottingham Forest could become the second Premier League club to have points deducted this season. The Athletic claims that the former European champions may follow Everton’s fate and also face penalties for breaching Financial Fair Play rules. This will be clarified by the end of January.
According to the latest league rules, clubs now have to submit their financial reports for the previous season – in this case, 2022/2023 – by December 31, as opposed to the previous deadline in March of the following year. The new system allows for sanctions to be imposed within the current season for any identified breaches of the rules. Nottingham Forest has brought in 42 new players since returning to the Premier League in 2022, so the club needs to offset some of the expenditures and be cautious in the upcoming transfer window. At the City Ground, they had anticipated that the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham in September (for £47.5 million) would balance the books, but this outgoing transfer may prove insufficient.

However, there is a risk that Everton, which had already been deducted 10 points earlier in the season for violating Financial Fair Play regulations, could face new penalties.
