Emma Raducanu underwent ankle surgery as part of treatment for several health problems. The 2021 US Open champion has been dealing with a series of injuries lately, and a few days ago she had an operation on her hand, which was the immediate reason for her withdrawal from the tennis tournament in Madrid.
Earlier this week, the 20-year-old tennis player revealed that she will have minor procedures on both hands and her left ankle in a bid to solve her problems once and for all. But that comes at a price, and in all likelihood, once surgery and rehab time is added up, she will miss the entire grass season, including Wimbledon.
On Friday, in a live stream on her Instagram account, she appeared from her hospital bed, confirming that the ankle surgery was now done. She also shared a photo of herself in a wheelchair, her left ankle bandaged, along with the caption “2/3” followed by a smiley face and a heart emoji. Raducanu says: “I just had an operation on my ankle, so two of the three operations are done. There is one left, but not in a week’s time.”
