In 2023, Formula 1 stewards issued 170 penalties to teams and drivers. Among these sanctions, 73 involved time penalties, 44 were financial fines, 14 resulted in grid position penalties, and 17 led to starting from the pit lane. The remaining penalties consisted of official warnings.
Of the 44 fines, the FIA collected a total of 107,900 euros, which is less than in 2021 (113,400 euros) and 2022 (116,800 euros). Of this amount, 76,000 euros came from driver fines, while 31,900 euros were fines for the teams. Williams paid the highest amount, accumulating five fines with a total value of 30,000 euros. Among the drivers with five fines were Lance Stroll and Guanyu Zhou, with fines of 1,300 euros and 900 euros, respectively. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton received fines totaling 700 euros for speeding in the pit lane and an additional 25,000 euros for crossing the track in Qatar without permission from the marshals.
Regarding time penalties, the most common were 5 and 10-second penalties, with 38 penalties issued for track limit violations. In Austria, all 20 drivers received 5 or 10-second penalties, while in Qatar, 12 drivers faced similar sanctions.
