Tobies Geizzer opened the scoring for the Swiss in the first period, followed up by Fabrice Herzog’s strike in the second doubling the lead.
Only 3 minutes later Damien Riat made it 3-0, before Nino Niedereiter added another one on power play. Sven Senteler rounded off the final score 5-0, compounding a miserable night for the Kazakhs.
The win rockets Switzerland with 9 points out of possible 9, which is more than enough for securing 1st spot in Group B. It was also their 3rd consecutive shutout win as they drew closer to their own personal record of 201 minutes without conceding a goal, set in 1939.
Next up on the road for Switzerland is a match against Slovakia on Thursday, while Kazakhstan go against undefeated Canada.
