The decision comes right before his Spanish national team prepares to defend the FIBA World Cup, won 4 years ago.
Rubio was selected as MVP in that tournament, securing an 8-0 record in the championship.
“I have decided to stop my professional activity to take care of my mental health,” Rubio said in a public statement. “I want to thank all the support I have received from the FEB to understand my decision. Today #LaFamilia makes more sense than ever. Thank you.”
Rubio refused to give any further intel about the reasons behind it and asked for his privacy to be respected.
The veteran point guard is the oldest player in the Cavaliers’ roster and has a long 12-year experience in the NBA, playing for Minnesota, Utah, Phenix and Cleveland.
