Rubiales released a statement, where he revealed he has submitted his resignation to the federation acting president Pedro Rocha.
He has also stepped down from his position as vice-president of UEFA executive committee.
“After the quick suspension carried out by Fifa, plus the rest of open proceedings against me, it is evident that I will not be able to return to my position,” Rubiales’ statement read.
“Insisting on waiting and holding on is not going to contribute to anything positive, neither to the federation nor to Spanish football.”
Rubiales continued to defend himself by claiming the kiss was ‘mutual’ and ‘consensual’, but after his provisional suspension carried out by FIFA, it was more or less inevitable he would loose his job.
