The captain of the new World basketball champion Germany, Dennis Schroder, said there is a 50:50 chance for the NBA superstar LeBron James to play for the United States at the Olympic basketball tournament in Paris next year.
The Americans had to settle for fourth place at the World Championships, which ended a week ago in Manila, Philippines, defeated by the Germans in the semifinals.
This American team featured mostly NBA players, but none of the league’s top stars. The Los Angeles Lakers’ James, a 2008 and 2012 Olympic champion and former teammate of Schröder who is now with the Toronto Raptors, is among those mentioned.
“I wrote to LeBron and asked him. He said the chances are 50:50,” Schroder told ZDF television on Saturday night.
Schröder added that Germany will not be afraid of an American team with stars like James and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. “With this team, it doesn’t really matter who we play. If we do our job well, there’s no need to hide,” Schroder shared.
