Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto has been suspended for 41 games for illegal online betting, US and Canadian media reported.
The 22-year-old American is the first hockey player to be punished for such a thing since betting on the Internet was allowed. As an NHL player, he is strictly prohibited from engaging in such activities.
Last season, Pinto played in all 82 of Ottawa’s regular season games. He scored 20 goals and had 15 assists for a total of 35 points.
