The Ottawa Senators are yet to offer Shane Pinto a new contract, which will tie him up with the club.
The 22-year-old impressed in his rookie season and is adamant to get a pay-rise, something that Ottawa are not capable of giving right now due to limited salary cap.
With just over $65,000 in cap space, the Senators lack the room to sign him to a league minimum $775,000.
One of the options is to trade someone from their current roster or to send someone to the minors. But that is risky as it leaves an option for other clubs to acquire them via waivers.
And with the team struggling to cope with the salary demands, their supporters are getting more and more impatient. Most of them chanted Pinto’s name in Ottawa’s opening game of the season, but to no affect.
The Senators are doing quite well in the 22-year-old absence, notching 3 NHL victories.
