NBA commissioner Adam Silver admitted in an interview with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s “First Take” that the National Basketball Association is thinking about returning to the East vs. West format in the All-Star Game in the current campaign after making it in the past years the top vote-getters in each conference serve as captains and picking their teams.
“We’re considering some new things in format in Indianapolis in 2024,” Silver shared, talking about the 2024 All-Star Match at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

“Maybe we will bring back a more traditional way regarding how the teams are selected. We tried new things with a captain and draft notion, but clearly, in the past, it was East vs. West. So that’s something that we are considering doing again.”
The league wants to make the All-Star Game more competitive, and a format change could be the solution.
