Only a few minutes after Sarah Sjostrom became the 2nd swimmer in history to ever triumph with 5 straight world titles in one event, she returned to the pool. She shocked the world after she beat her world record in the 50 freestyle semis in the World Swimming Championship in Japan.
Six years, the Swedish swam 23.67 in the World Championships ½ finals, but today she beat it after finishing 23.61 in Fukuoka. She swam the whole distance at full speed as expectations were that she would give it a rest in the final meters given the fact that she swam a few minutes ago and tried to rest for the upcoming final tomorrow, but Sjostrom didn’t do that and end up beating the world record.

She has been winning gold medals for her whole career, as she triumphed for the 1st time only 15 years old at the World in Italy in 2009. Now that she is only 21 days away from becoming 30, the swimmer from Sweden chose to focus only on 50-meter races this season, as she didn’t compete in events such as the 100 fly and 100 free, as in both she holds the world record.
