The Spain’s national team has condemned Luis Rubiales actions as “unacceptable” after the former Spain FA president infamously kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips following the World Cup success last month.
The incident received a huge public outburst, which was deepened by the fact that Rubiales refused to resign, despite all players and managerial staff threatening not to play. Eventually FIFA had to intervene and exclude Rubiales from any football activity for 60 days.
Meanwhile the men’s side have expressed their solidarity not only to Hermoso, but to all players, whose success got marred by the incident.
“We want to reject what we consider unacceptable behavior on the part of Mr Rubiales, who has not lived up to the institution he represents,” said Spain’s captain Alvaro Morata.
“We firmly and unequivocally stand on the side of the values that this sport represents.
“Spanish football must be a driving force for respect, inspiration, inclusion, and diversity and must set an example with its behaviour both on and off the field.”
