After clinching the all-important Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, Heat’s head-coach Erik Spoelstra let his emotions get the better of him.
Miami had 3-0 lead, but let all that evaporate after the Celtics won three games in a row. That left both teams in a do-or-die final Game 7 to decide the Nuggets opponent.
Despite their negative streak Miami pulled themselves together and managed to cling through to the relief of their supporters. It marked the first Game 7 that Spoelstra had won on the road.
After the match the 52-year-old reflected on the turbulent ride the team went through.
“These are lessons that we’re going to pass on to our children about perseverance,” he said. “Things don’t go your way, we just keep on forging ahead and suffer and suffer and suffer until you get what you want.”
